Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan to Distribute AdvoyMobile Devices to Improve Access and Utilization of Electronic Bleeding and Infusion Logs YPSILANTI, MI, December 15, 2005. The Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan (HFM) announced that it is the recipient of a grant from Baxter Healthcare Corporation to provide national distribution of AdvoyMobile hand-held computer devices to improve access to the AdvoyCare electronic bleeding and infusion data system. AdvoyCare, developed by Baxter Healthcare Corporation, is an easy-to-use electronic therapy and data management tool that allows patients to record bleed and infusion details. It eliminates the need for paper records and offers convenient communication and data access and storage for patients and health care providers. AdvoyMobile provides access and logging capability for patients with or without Internet Access using hand-held devices that can be synchronized via a personal computer or telephone line with the same secure database used by AdvoyCare. Confidential and secure, Advoy allows users to view patient records and therapy trends graphically with an easy-to-use interface. The system is integrated with LabTracker, the national database program used by U.S. Hemophilia Treatment Centers (HTCs), allowing easy transfer of data to HTC databases. Patient healthcare data collected through Advoy is stored at a state of the art secured location and is managed by the National Data Oversight Committee, a group of hemophilia healthcare professionals. Advoy and Baxter employees do not have access to patient healthcare information. Advoy is a comprehensive solution to therapy management and encourages timely and proactive treatment decisions to improve patient outcomes, said John Shannon, Vice President of Marketing for Baxters BioScience business. Baxter is committed to meeting the needs of the hemophilia community through medical and program innovation and is proud to partner with the Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan to promote streamlined therapy monitoring. The Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan (HFM) has been involved in the National Data Oversight Committee (N-DOC) formed to manage data access issues and to provide community based decision-making about the development of Advoy. In cooperation with Baxter Healthcare, N-DOC members representing regions and HTCs from across the country have worked for over three years with clinicians and patients to assess the benefits of the ADVOY system and to identify barriers to access and utilization. HFM is committed to providing an efficient, confidential, and secure system for obtaining AdvoyMobile hand-held devices to eliminate a major barrier to access for many patients, said Tami Wood-Lively, HFM Regional Coordinator and Administrative Coordinator for N-DOC. We will continue to promote the use of the Advoy electronic bleeding log system and view our work to date with Baxter through N-DOC as a model of community-industry partnership. We have seen the power of Advoy to patients and to HTC providers in individual clinical decision-making. With substantial increases in demand and use, we are also beginning to appreciate its value as an integral tool for comprehensive national data collection and research infrastructure. AdvoyMobile devices can be obtained free of charge by all patients regardless of what product is used so long as care for their bleeding disorder is provided at a treatment center that has registered and been trained on the use of Advoy.
