This specialized camp for children with hereditary bleeding disorders serves boys and girls ages 6 through 13. Camp Bold Eagle is located on the shores of Big Blue Lake in Holton, Michigan. Campers return year after year to catch up with old friends and meet others with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders. Camp Bold Eagle offers a variety of camp activities, including archery, arts & crafts, fishing, swimming, boating, nature exploration, and bleeding disorders education.

Campers are encouraged to learn to self infuse their own factor while at camp, earning them a coveted "Butterfly Award." Over 50 dedicated volunteers, including people with hemophilia, medical professionals, and University of Michigan Medical School students commit endless hours to ensure the success of Camp Bold Eagle year after year. Individuals interested in camp, either potential campers or staff members, are encouraged to contact HFM.

Employment Opportunities

Camp Bold Eagle Staff Orientation July7-10, 2010

Download 2010 Camp Bold Eagle Staff Application

Spending a few weeks of your summer at Camp Bold Eagle can change your life forever.  Being a camp counselor is a rewarding and demanding job.  If you are ready for the challenge, download an application and return it to HFM by March 8th for program staff positions and March 15th for counseling staff positions.

Volunteers are a very important component of the camp programs. Individuals interested in volunteering have to be at least 18 years of age and past camp experience is desirable but not required. Volunteers have direct contact with campers and staff members, so they must be able to interact positively with both groups. The responsibilities that volunteers may have include participating in the daily camp program along with their assigned cabin, assisting in the implementation of evening activities, participating in campouts, and assisting cabin counselors with facilitating routines or schedules for their assigned cabin.

Medical volunteers are a significant part of the camp programs. The health and wellness of the entire camp rests with the medical personnel. A major portion of a medical volunteer's task is to assist campers in incorporating hemophilia, HIV/AIDS, and hepatitis constructively into their self concepts and lifestyles. Medical personnel are also relied upon to be the front-line people observing and handling camper and staff health concerns.

Eagle Outpost staff members play a vital role in the development of campers during some of the most influential years of their lives. Outpost is a great opportunity to help develop young leaders in the bleeding disorder community. If interested, please download an application and return it to HFM by March 8th.

Eagle Outpost is a traveling camp that moves from site to site. Therefore, applicants must be willing to sleep in tents with staff of the same gender and must be willing to assist campers in outdoor skills (i.e. tent assembly and campfire cooking). It is desirable for applicants to have had at least one year of experience as staff at Camp Bold Eagle but not necessary.
