Families who are new to the hemophilia community or who are new to the Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan are welcomed with an informative packet filled with programs and events happening state-wide. Many programs such as parent's night out dinners and SpringFest events not only educate new families but also help them connect to other people and resources in the community. HFM has also implemented a new program called "First Step". This program gives new parents an opportunity to meet with other new parents to learn more of the basics of raising a child with hemophilia. The topics include finding appropriate childcare, maneuvering a successful ER visit, or the effects of a bleeding disorder on a family. A hemophilia treatment center social worker, social worker from HFM, and another more experienced parent facilitate the group. If you are a parent of a newly diagnosed child or if you are new to this area please give us a call and we we'll mail you the information you need. Please ask for Colleen Joiner, LMSW. 1-800-482-3041
